Mat-Su Regional Medical Center offering Physicians Quality of Life
An interview with Daniel Goff, former Director of Business Development and Physician Relations of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center
What draws people to Palmer Alaska?
Palmer is one small city in an area that we refer to as the Mat-Su Valley. The Mat-Su valley or the Mat-Su Borough is roughly the size of the state of West Virginia, and we serve a population of 90,000 people. The people of the Mat-Su Valley live here for the lifestyle. There are more outdoor recreational opportunities than I can state. If you love the outdoors, fishing, hunting, back country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, snow machining, ATVing, gold panning, you name it, it can happen here.
Additionally it is still a community where neighbors talk to one another and look after each other’s kids. It is a safe environment to raise children and the school system is very good with many options to meet any unique needs that your child may have. I have two young boys who have just started school and my wife and I are very happy with their progress and they are happy too.
Why Mat-Su Regional Medical Center?
Mat-Su Regional has been a recipient of the Mountain Pacific Quality Award, which recognizes Alaska hospitals for high-quality care in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical infection prevention. For the second consecutive year The Joint Commission recognized Mat-Su Regional as one of the Nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures, where they were recognized specifically for their quality key measures in the areas of heart attack, pneumonia, and surgical care. In addition to these honors, Mat-Su Regional has earned the NICHE designation, for its commitment to excellent care for elderly patients, Accreditation by the Chest Pain Centers of Excellence for treatment of Chest pain patients, and named one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare by Becker’s Hospital Review.
As you can see our hospital takes quality care very seriously, so your patients will be well cared for. We take our Physician and Employee satisfaction very seriously which is why we are able to be successful at quality. Most importantly we are a family delivering care to our neighbors and friends; we are all committed to doing the right thing, from the CEO to the House Keeper.
What kind of services hospital services does your organization offer?
Mat-Su Regional Medical Center is a state-of-the-art 74-bed acute care facility with a 14-bed ICU, a 20-bed Emergency Department, a 10-LDRP birthing center, a cardiac cath lab, a well-equipped and fully digital OR with 5 rooms including daVinci and Hana modalities, an outpatient surgery center and three outpatient centers. We recently added 3D Mammography to our full service imaging department as well. The medical center has about 100 physicians on active medical staff and a total medical staff of almost 200 physicians. We have a robust Hospitalist Program and an Intensivist.
