I chose to work in Vicksburg Mississippi because of the close knit community and safe environment to raise a family. Vicksburg offers a lot of the conveniences that you will get in a larger city, but with the convenience of a small community. There is great camaraderie among practicing physicians, and the community is very supportive. There are a lot of opportunities to practice the full spectrum of family medicine (e.g. outpatient, inpatient, nursing home, long-term acute care, urgent care and/or a combination of all) as determined by the physician. We have great hospitals and clinic facilities, and excellent specialty support. The largest medical school in this state, the only physician assistant programs in the state and multiple nursing schools are within 1 hour driving distance for physicians that want to actively participate/remain involve with medical education/academic medicine. We also have very active involvement and support of medical associations like the Mississippi State Medical Association and the Mississippi Academy of Family Medicine.
